Hi, my name is Raul and I'm thinking of relocating to Mexico for a variety of reasons. I'm 69 (almost 70...eek!) with a good, stable income. I'm single, fairly independent, and live a quiet modest life. I'm a US citizen, but I'm Mexican/American. I speak the language and I'm familiar with the culture. You're waiting for the BUT, right...?
I have some healthcare concerns. Due to a neurological issue, I have mobility problems, I walk with a cane and use a motorized wheelchair for longer excursions. I also have HIV. It's all manageable and my HIV is undetectable. But I do need constant medical services to keep my condition under control.
One of my primary destinations in Mexico is Queretaro. I had thought Guadalajara would be nice, but I got the impression it might be too tropical/humid for my taste. I get the impression Queretaro is a bit more arid.
I know I won't find accessibility levels to be like those in the USA, but it's not like I'm going to be out and about that much anyway. I just want to be able to occasionally visit plazas, mercados, parks, gardens, museums, etc., and be able to do so in my wheelchair.
If anyone could offer me their experience or advice on living in Mexico with disabilities, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
