"The search for a British teenager who went missing after a night out in Tenerife has entered its fifth day with rescue teams and police focusing on a rural village and a valley below it."
But it seems that British police offered to help the Spanish authorities with the search, but it wasn´t taken up.
Can you just imagine it, the Police asking for volunteers from their ranks to go to Tenerife.
They would be fighting to get their name on the list.
To be honest, I´m not really surprised the Spanish authorities said ´thanks for the offer, but no thanks´.
The problem with British people or indeed northern Europeans is, they have no clue how to conduct themselves, with the heat you get in Spain.
On top of that, can you imagine all the Police officers in the evening, with time on their hands, with their mates, and the cheap booze...

The last thing the Spanish police need is some foreign officers, who don't speak the language, know the terrain nor understand how to deal with the heat, adding to their work, I agree.

I'm not sure what more can be done tbh. The Tenerife police have been using air searches among other things, including national publicity, which is more than a lot of disappearances receive.

His mother seems to think that he might have been kidnapped. La madre de Jay, el joven desaparecido en Tenerife, cree que puede haber sido secuestrado

I don't know what more expertise Lancashire Police, who only recovered the body of Nicola Bulley from the River Wyre (one mile from where she went missing) after three weeks when it was spotted by a walker although the area had been extensively searched by police, could add.

Must be every parents nightmare.... a young adult going to a popular hot spot in Europe with lots of cheap booze and drugs..... what could go wrong ?

But if you think about it in the wider context of the disappearance of madeleine mccann, it is not really surprising that the UK police want boots on the gound.
The madeleine mccann case was a real saga with the Portuguese police and dragged on for years.
It is understandable that the UK Police did want to assist any way they could, hence the offer.
It would also mean UK police would have first hand access to any evidence, if it were the case we were dealing with a crime scene, which remains to be seen.
You could also probably have expected t UK / Spanish Police debriefings to the media.
Regardless, lets hope that we have a happy ending to this missing persons search.

And the UK police involvement achieved precisely nothing, despite having spent 13.2 million pounds on the McCann case to date. In fact it has been said that competing organisations hindered progress.

A stark contrast to the resources devoted to searching for other British children who went missing abroad eg Ben Needham.

Lynn, I think you are being a big tough on the UK Police.
They offered to help with the search, which we cannot criticise them for doing.
Equally, these investigations into missing persons can be quite challenging.
You're trying to work out where someone is, who has disappeared...
With many crimes you have a crime scene, but a missing person, all you can try to do is put the jigsaw of last sightenings, video footage etc together to try and trace their last whereabouts....

A rather disturbing report.

Spanish police searching for Jay Slater, 19, investigate if his background is 'relevant' to his disappearance as it emerges Brit was involved in machete and golf club attack that left teenager, 17, fighting for his life in 2021 | Daily Mail Online

And a search confirms that the report is true, and he and his fellow defendants behaved appallingly in court, laughing and joking throughout, and were also involved in witness intimidation and supply of Class A drugs.

Something that could well provide a motive for him to be targeted.

Strange that, his mum said he was a lovely lad........

I wasn't going to bother to dignify your earlier comment to this effect with a reply, but since you are obviously determined to push the envelope ...

What I think is that you just want to push a contrarian view for the sake of it, considering what you wrote in your opening post in this thread (still there for all to read) which is just as critical of the UK police if not more so.

I would have also expected a larger number in the ‘official’ search team. Of course there is always a bigger picture in something like this and they could be going through the motions, but if they are genuinely searching it’s seems a very small team.

Lynn, I do have to point out my single remark that related specifically to the police was when they were, OFF DUTY.
Furthermore if they want to have a few pints and watch the Euros football, on TV in the boozer, they are pefectly at liberty to do so.
However your remarks related to their ON DUTY abilit to conduct an effective investigation.
You are undermining their professionalism and competence, which I cannot accept!

Furthermore, i suggested that I saw merit in the UK police being involved from the start.
You again challenged that.
As we get futher into this matter, the chances of foul play are ever increasing, especially with what has come to light the violent attack, that Joe was involved in previously, that happened in the UK.
So, clear that it would have better, had UK police been involved from the start.

Lynn, given the dangerous job the UK police do, the social problems, criminality, widespread use of weapons life knives, gangs, general voilence, etc, they do I job I would not want to have to do.
They deserve our suppport, not unwarrented criticism!

"Dangerous job" :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: you clearly have no idea just how safe of a job being a uk copper is, each year the HSE publish a list of dangerous occupation, the police have NEVER been in the top 15 since they started publishing the stats, I can still when one of the 'on the job' injuries that a cop got while at a demonstration was a,,,,,,,,,bee sting, yep it was included as an injury received by a cop along side another injury of a trapped thumb in the police van door :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

One media outlet is saying he was last seen by the owner of the cafe Mirador La Cruz de Hilda, which is North of the village of Masca.
Totally in the opposite direction if one was trying to get back south to Playa de las Americas area.....
The authorities are already saying he could have fallen or had an accident in the rough terrain - nothing suspicious ?
