I can recommend this car repair shop in Roses

Our car let us down on Wednesday evening when the power steering failed, dumping all the fluid on the road.

Fortunately we were near our hotel, so I parked the car there.

On Thursday morning a mechanic from a nearby car repair shop walked with me to the car and drove it to the shop, where he quickly found the fault, a leak from a damaged hydraulic hose.

He ed his parts supplier, and told me he could possibly get a new hose by Friday afternoon, or by Monday at the latest, as he didn't recommend attempting to repair the old hose. I agreed to his fitting a new hose.

To our delight the shop phoned at 6 p.m. on Saturday to tell us the car was ready, and I was even more pleased that the bill was a very reasonable €129 for 2 1/2 hours labour and €139 for the hose and new fluid. I’m sure would have taken longer to do the job myself even if I could have got the car home, as the hose connections are quite difficult to access, and the materials plus delivery would have cost me almost as much.

So I can thoroughly recommend
911Taller, Gran via Pau Casals, Roses 17480 (Girona)
Tel. 872 266 687 or 657 932 418

I can also recommend our very nice hotel, the Montmar, in Roses, where the staff, especially Rafael, the manager, and Bradley, have been especially kind and patient in juggling our reservation dates to fit in with the estimates of the repair shop and our other plans.

There have been very strong winds here for the last few days, with people almost blown over in the street, so we have not ventured outside the hotel except to eat nearby, and buy a few things from the supermarket opposite (where the car is parked free of charge), but tonight at about 9 p.m. the wind dropped to a gentle breeze..
So we should be en route home, to the N of Carcassonne, tomorrow a.m, after doing our usual shopping (mostly essential hospitality supplies from Wine Palace and meat from Blasi's stall in Roses market), filling the petrol tank, and a last menu del dia, probably at La Parada in Vilamalla.
We're thinking of either buying a small pied a tierre, or perhaps renting something off-season, so we can spend the winters here, where it is usually at least 5 degrees warmer than chez nous, and 911 Taller will be my first choice to look after our old but usually reliable 1996 Audi A4 (which has only done 88,500 km) from new), as this has become a bit difficult for me as the years pile up.

Yes, Roses can get very windy and is quite open. Still mild enough but it gets a lot calmer and milder once you Pals as the coast is more sheltered with a lot more trees. The only downside in Roses is that property is also quite expensive now, there are some cheaper apartments but they are either older or seem to be on the market all the time.

We usually spend the day there before driving back through and get some last supplies at Supermercats Montserrat in Empuriabrava, they always have a good wine selection.
